JOSEPH CABATO, MFA
Passionate filmmaker
Joseph Cabato is a Filipinx American writer, director, editor, and producer of the horror short film "OPEN HOUSE: The Grieving Mother." The film served as his MFA Capstone Project at American University.
Principal production of the movie began in October of 2016 and concluded in February 2017. The movie was shot almost entirely with two iPhone 7 4K cameras (aided by the FiLMiC Pro app), while drone footage and few other scenes were shot with the Go Pro Hero 4. Besides editing, Joseph Cabato also created the Visual Effects, Sound Design and Musical Score/Remix for the movie (using royalty-free scores, loops, and SFX).
Joseph Cabato was born and raised in the Philippines, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of San Carlos. He pursued a Masters degree in Food Science at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, before working as a chemist for a Food conglomerate. Eventually, he ended up doing sales and marketing for Bristol-Myers Squibb Meadjohnson in Manila.

In 2001, Joseph migrated to the U.S. to pursue his childhood dream and passion for filmmaking. He finished three Associate degrees—graduating summa cum laude in Communication Design, Interactive Design, and Fine Arts/Photography, respectively. Feel free to check out his Art & Design portfolio! In 2017, Joseph earned his Master of Fine Arts in Film and Electronic Media from American University
Joseph Cabato is married to Andrew Arthur Taylor, a retired U.S. Air Force F-16 pilot who often serves as his Cinematographer. He is a stepdad to Ian and Jack; both boys were part of the Production Crew of "Open House: The Grieving Mother."
DIREK JC
Joseph Cabato prefers to be called by his nickname, JC. Direk JC if he's directing on set (it's a Filipino director thing, haha!) When not captivated by creative workload, he enjoys immersing in social media. A few hours on Instagram is an understatement--follow his shenanigans at @Direk_JC!
JC also likes learning new languages (currently rotating Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian and German), reading screenplays, hiking riverside trails, or hitting the backwood roads—blasting to 80s Madonna!
